Sustainability

Sustainability is integral to Arena and best positions us to achieve positive long-term commercial and community outcomes. Given the environmental and social footprint of our assets, we are able to leverage our impact by actively partnering with our tenants on a range of sustainability initiatives.

Arena’s Sustainability Framework

An independent external assessment of our material issues guided the development of Arena’s Sustainability Framework, which outlines our approach to key sustainability issues, including how they contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Due to the nature of our triple net leases, tenant partners maintain operational control of Arena’s properties. This means we need to actively collaborate with our tenant partners regarding sustainability initiatives, which forms the foundation of our overarching approach to sustainability — ‘Partnerships for Change.’ Our partnership approach delivers mutually beneficial outcomes for our communities, team, tenant partners and ultimately our investors.

We’re conscious of the need to responsibly manage the environmental impacts of our business activities and operations. We’re committed to investing in renewable energy and improving the efficiency of our natural resources, as well as identifying and managing climate change risks and opportunities, and maximising our resilience in the transition to a low carbon economy.

We’re committed to creating positive working environments — both for our team and for our tenant partners. We invest the capital necessary to provide efficient, flexible and well-located accommodation, so our tenants can focus on delivering essential services which provide material benefits, both social and financial, to local communities and Australian society more generally.

Responsible governance is embedded into Arena’s culture. We are committed to the highest level of integrity and ethical standards, complying with all applicable laws and regulations. We have accountable and transparent risk management practices in place, as well as relevant governance policies and procedures.

Climate Resilience

Arena is committed to identifying and managing climate change risks and opportunities and maximizing our resilience in the transition to a low carbon economy. As part of this commitment, Arena has set an emission reduction target of net zero Financed Emissions by 2050 with an interim 2030 target of 60-70% reduction in the intensity of our Financed Emissions from a 2021 baseline.

Modern Slavery​

We recognise that businesses have an important role to play in addressing modern slavery. In accordance with Arena’s sustainability framework, we have committed to strengthening the management of our modern slavery risks, including to voluntarily opt in to report under Australia’s Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).

In late 2023 Arena issued our second voluntary Modern Slavery Statement (Statement). The Statement outlines the actions we have taken to strengthen our modern slavery risk management approach and highlights our aim to continue to refine our response over the coming years. We look forward to continuing to build on our modern slavery response in line with our roadmap, working in partnership with our tenant partners and other key stakeholders where appropriate.
